The “Sikkim Grant of Award to Transgender (SGATT)” scheme was initiated in 2013 by the Department of Women & Child Welfare, Government of Sikkim. Aimed at empowering transgender individuals facing financial hardships, this initiative provides crucial financial support to those belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) households.

Overview of the Scheme

The SGATT scheme is specifically designed to assist transgender individuals who lack a consistent source of income and do not receive financial aid from family members or government pensions, whether from the State or Central Government. This financial assistance aims to improve their living conditions and overall quality of life.

Key Benefits

• Monthly Financial Support: A provision of ₹12,000 is allotted to transgender individuals within the age bracket of 0-6 years.
• Educational Opportunities: Beneficiaries are entitled to receive 100% free education until they reach graduation.
• Unemployment Support: A monthly stipend of ₹500 is available for those who remain unemployed post-qualification, either educational or technical.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Sikkim Grant of Award to Transgender, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• The applicant must be a resident of Sikkim.
• The individual should identify as transgender.
• Applicants must belong to a Below Poverty Line (BPL) family.
• No salary, pension, or family pension should be received from the Central or other State Governments.
• A bank account under the “Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana” must be opened.

Important Notes

• Grant payments will discontinue upon the death of the beneficiary, with any due payments being directed to immediate family members, contingent upon the surrender of the passbook to the Department.
• In cases of permanent relocation outside Sikkim, grant payments will cease from the date of migration, requiring the family or Panchayat to surrender the passbook to the Department.

Individuals can apply for the SGATT scheme through both offline and online methods.

Offline Application Procedure

Follow these steps to apply offline:

1. Visit the local Gram Panchayat, Municipality, or Municipal Corporation office to consult with the designated authority about the application process. Collect the application form.
2. Complete all required fields in the application form and attach self-attested mandatory documents. Submit the form to the designated authority.

Post-Application Steps

1. The application will be reviewed by the Selection Committee upon submission.
2. Approval will be granted by the Secretary, and a copy of the payment order will be sent to local authorities.
3. The grant funds will be disbursed either through the office of the Block Development Officers or via Direct Benefit Transfer, as applicable.

2. Log in and select “Apply now.”
3. Fill in all required fields on the application page and upload the necessary documents in the specified format. A system-generated application number will be provided upon successful submission; keep this for your records.

Checking Application Status

Applicants will receive updates regarding their application status, including any approvals or rejections, via SMS notifications.
