Integrated Child Development Services Scheme
Integrated Child Development Services Scheme (ICDS)
The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme, a vital initiative in Nagaland, aims to enhance the health and nutrition of children and mothers. Launched in 1975 in the Jalukie block of Peren district, this programme has significantly evolved, expanding its reach to cover multiple districts across the state.
Overview of the Scheme
The ICDS programme commenced in Nagaland with just 50 Anganwadi centres in 1975. Today, it boasts 60 ICDS projects distributed across 11 districts. The programme includes two urban projects, one rural project, and the remainder focused on tribal communities. Through a network of 3,980 Anganwadi centres, the ICDS provides six essential services: supplementary nutrition, health check-ups, non-formal pre-school education, immunization, nutrition and health education, and referral services. Currently, the scheme serves approximately 3.45 lakh beneficiaries, including children aged 0-6 years, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
