Overview of the Sant Surdas Scheme

Initiated by the Director of Social Defence under the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, the Sant Surdas Scheme offers monthly financial aid to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) who are registered in the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category. This scheme is particularly focused on individuals with a disability percentage exceeding 80%, thereby addressing the needs of the most vulnerable segments of society.

Key Benefits

• The state government provides a monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 to eligible beneficiaries.
• This amount is disbursed directly to the beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Eligibility Requirements

• The applicant must be a resident of Gujarat.
• Age criteria range from 0 to 17 years.
• A disability percentage of 80% or more is required, or the applicant must be unable to move independently even with assistive devices.
• Inclusion in the Below Poverty Line (BPL) list with a BPL score of up to 20 is mandatory.
• Beneficiaries must be recognized as disabled by either the Ministry of Rural Development or the Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation of the Government of India, depending on whether they reside in rural or urban areas.
• A valid disability card issued by the state government is necessary.

Note: The financial assistance will cease once the beneficiary turns 18 years of age.

Application Procedure

To apply for the Sant Surdas Scheme, follow these steps:

• Step 1: Visit the e-Samaj Kalyan Portal at https://esamajkalyan.gujarat.gov.in/.
• Step 2: On the homepage, locate the ‘Citizen Login’ tab and select ‘New User Please Register Here’.
• Step 3: Fill in the required details including your full name (as per Aadhaar), gender, date of birth, Aadhaar number, email ID, and caste, then click ‘Register’.
• Step 4: After completing registration, log in using your User ID and Password.
• Step 5: Click on ‘User Profile’ to update your personal information.
• Step 6: Complete all mandatory fields and click ‘Update’.
• Step 7: Once your profile is updated, select the Sant Surdas Scheme from the homepage, and an application form will appear.
• Step 8: Fill out the application form with all required details and upload the necessary documents.
• Step 9: Agree to the terms and conditions, then click ‘Save Application’.
• Step 10: Submit your application and print a copy for future reference. Also, note your application number to track its status by logging back into the portal.
