Kanyashree Prakalpa: Empowering the Future of Girls in West Bengal

The Kanyashree Prakalpa initiative, launched by the Government of West Bengal, is designed to uplift the status and welfare of girls, particularly those hailing from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. This scheme aims to provide Conditional Cash Transfers to encourage girls to pursue their education for a longer duration, while simultaneously discouraging early marriages.

Overview of Kanyashree Prakalpa

Administered by the Department of Women Development and Social Welfare and Child Development (DWD), the Kanyashree Prakalpa seeks to enhance the overall well-being of girls in West Bengal. The scheme provides financial incentives in the form of cash transfers to motivate girls to stay in school longer and to delay marriage until the legal age of 18. The initiative not only focuses on financial support but also aims to empower young girls through financial inclusion and self-decision-making.

Objectives of the Scheme

  • Educational Incentives: Encourage girls to complete secondary and higher secondary education or equivalent vocational and technical courses, improving their economic and social standing.
  • Delayed Marriages: Promote postponement of marriage until at least 18 years of age to mitigate risks associated with early pregnancies and maternal health issues.
  • Empowerment: Enable girls to manage their finances by depositing benefits directly into their bank accounts, thus fostering independence and decision-making skills.
  • Behavioral Change: Implement awareness programs that enhance self-esteem and social power among girls through events, competitions, and role model endorsements.

Keep this acknowledgement slip carefully as it contains the Form No., name, and other details, serving as proof of application for Kanyashree.
